MENTORING CELL

A Formal Mentoring Cell has been formed from the academic year 2015 – 16. The cell will look after the emotional, psychological as well as the academic wellbeing of the students of the college.
It has kept in mind the holistic development of the students.

The college has a visiting counsellor who will also be assisting in mentoring the students. The cell has a vision to cover all the degree college students, albeit in a phased manner of allotting approximately 20 students to each teacher.

OBJECTIVES OF MENTORING
To monitor the students regularity & discipline To enable the parents to know about the performance & regularity of their wards.

Improvement of teacher-student relationship.

Counseling students for solving their problems and provide confidence to improve their quality of life.

OUTCOMES OF THE MENTORING SYSTEM
The attendance percentage of the students has increased to a greater extent.
The number of detainment of students has decreased consistently.
In course of direct communication between mentor and the student there was a good improvement in the teacher-student relationship.
The above effected in attaining a better academic performance.

MENTORING PROCESS IN OUR COLLEGE

Mentoring practice followed by our Institution

• HoDs of all departments will allot group of students to each staff(Mentor) right from the first year of their course. There should be maximum 20 mentee per mentor. Groups should be made from same department Groups should remain for entire course duration.

• The mentor should conduct regular meetings and discussions on any problem such as academic, financial, psychological, etc. There should be a continuous review of students’ progress. The mentor should keep the record of all details in the mentoring session.

• The mentor should identify the poor learners and interact with them to resolve the cause.

• Inculcating discipline, punctuality and motivation among the students is the main objective in career building of a student.

• This is a continuous process till the end of academic career of the student. During the last semester of study, students are advised for higher studies along with proper career guidance. Reasonable numbers of students have secured admissions for their higher studies and they in turn guide their juniors for their prospective admissions.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES OF MENTOR
• Introduction of group and discussion of the mentor – mentee system.

• Call of meeting and record of details in the form about goal setting & action planning and mentoring session.

• Keep a track record of attendance and academic performance and behavioral aspect.

• Support to the student academically and emotionally.

• Contact to parents and to inform them about the progress of their ward.

• Arrange remedial teaching, if necessary.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES OF MENTEE
• Attend meeting regularly.

• Fill the personal information in the form.

• Provide details of attendance, continuous assessment, term end examination, cocurricular, extra-curricular activities to mentor.

• Seek advice from mentor whenever required.
